Dissonance and Absence

Dissonance warns us of the consequences of silence. Serious conversations about race, though difficult, are rare and underrepresented. The play aims to resolve this absence in order to make strides toward achieving racial justice in America.

In their attempt to fill an empty space in the world of theatre, the playwrights fit a large variety of racial topics into a short script. I wonder if a few acknowledgments of injustice would not have been enough to establish representation of systematic racism. The authors are trying to fill an impossibly large cultural gap; in doing so they risk overwhelming the dialogue and the audience.
